When it comes to exfoliating you are one of 2 types of people 1) you’ve gone a little too hard on the face scrub and now avoid it all together or2) you have no idea what you should be using to exfoliate and how often you should exfoliate. If you fall into both of them, it’s cool. Exfoliating your face is an essential step in any skin care routine, along with cleansing and moisturising. Yet, knowing how and when to exfoliate your face can be tricky, especially when your skin type and any major skin conditions play such a large factor.
Why and How you should exfoliate
As we age our cell turnover slows down; which leaves dead skin cells that dulls our complexion. These dead skin cells can clog pores; which in turn can block the skins ability to properly absorb the products you use. When exfoliating using a circular motion with light pressure is best. You should never feel as if your exfoliant is digging or cutting into your skin! When it comes to your face you should exfoliate 1-2 a week whereas with your body you should exfoliate 2-3 times a week. You can use a product based exfoliant or a dry body brush (only on your body).
